Этот фильм был снят во время американского турне 1972 года в поддержку альбома "Exile On Main Street", первых гастролей в США после трагических событий в Алтамонте. Команда была в отличной концертной форме, однако режиссера больше интересовала закулисная жизнь музыкантов, состоявшая из пьянок, наркотических дебошей и безудержного секса с поклонницами. До экрана фильм так и не добрался - считается, что в первую очередь из-за обилия ненормативной лексики. Что говорить о фильме в целом, если даже сингл "Cocksucker Blues", давший ленте заглавие, не был опубликован. Другая причина - недовольство роллингов излишней концентрацией режиссера на немузыкальных сторонах жизни The Rolling Stones. Мик Джаггер называет фильм классикой, однако "Cocksucker Blues" до сих пор не выпущен официально. Ходят его нелегальные копии, а предметом особой гордости Мэрилина Мэнсона является тот факт, что часть фильма снималась в доме, где он жил с 1997 года. Из кадров того же турне был смонтирован и фильм "Ladies And Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones". Он представлял собой устроивший всех набор концертных видео, отличительной чертой которого стало редкое по тем временам квадрофоническое звучание.

The live recordings from the 60's are (alas) shortened but in exellent quality.
The oldest live recording is from February 1964: the Stones play 'You better move on'
in the Arthur Haynes show. Also fragments of the Stones in TV shows like Ready steady
go, Ed Sullivan and Hollywood Palace are shown. We see parts of the famous Kurhaus
concert in Holland (August 8, 1964) and a Muddy Waters concert from 1981 where he
was joined by 3 Stones members. One of the highlights of this video is the famous
publicity stunt of the Stones from 1975 when they played live on a open truck in
the streets of New York to announce their US tour. The picture and sound quality is
excellent. Included is the clip 'Rock and a hard place'. A must! Also for sale on laserdisc

Эти слова были справедливы по отношению к "Роллингам" и в 70-е, и в 80-е, и в 90-е, и в 2000-е годы. Их можно поставить девизом к четырем из пяти документальных фильмов, объединенных на DVD "The Rolling Stones: Just For the Record" и рассказывающих в хронологическом порядке о житейских перипетиях и карьерных успехах Джаггера, Ричардса и компании: "Серия 1. Шестидесятые", "Серия 2. Семидесятые" и так далее, вплоть до 2002 года.
260 минут кино-, фото-, видео- и аудиоматериалов, полсотни эксклюзивных интервью, съемки самых масштабных концертов не только в биографии "Роллингов", но и в истории современной музыки, взвешенные мнения маститых и легендарных музыкантов наряду с экспрессивными монологами фанов - на первый взгляд, DVD упакован под завязку. Но у компании Passport International Productions очень своеобразное представление о том, как удивить и порадовать зрителей. Судя по аналогичным DVD, посвященным судьбе Джими Хендрикса и истории Beatles, лучше всего руководство Passport International умеет считать деньги, экономя на выплате авторских прав и гонораров, а художественная сторона их продукта - вопрос третьестепенный.
Поэтому фанам Rolling Stones, как и поклонникам Хендрикса и "Битлов", обманутых документальными историями "The Beatles: Long and Winding Road" и "Jimi Hendrix: The Uncut Story", нужно быть готовыми к достаточно подробной, местами нудноватой лекции о корифеях рок-н-ролла, вопреки всем канонам не проиллюстрированной их музыкой. То есть ни единым аккордом. Потому что издание неавторизованное, то есть не получившее благословения сэра Джаггера и компании. Видимо, так подешевле будет, да и работать проще. Концертных и видеосъемок - сколько угодно, на прыжки и ужимки Джаггера можно любоваться до обморока, но озвучивает этот драйвовый видеоряд дикторский голос за кадром. Самые живые места в его деловитых монологах - это лингвистические перлы, которыми традиционно блистают релизы компании "Другое кино", готовившей русское издание.
Да, фактического материала, хроникальных кадров, исторических справок, собранных для DVD, хватило бы на занимательную брошюру в два-три авторских листа. Но главным источником информации, раз уж официальные архивы оказались для них закрыты, создатели этих пяти фильмов считают показания живых свидетелей. В общем, тоже правильно. Жаль только, что в процессе отбора этих показаний авторы забывают о законах детективного жанра, требующих держать зрителей в напряжении от начала до конца. Жевать пережеванное, закреплять пройденное, насколько закрепителя хватит, возвращаться к вышесказанному по пятому разу - вот основной художественный прием, благодаря которому самые интересные детали доводятся до консистенции унылого киселя.
Два первых фильма, которые рассказывают о детстве и юности будущих патриархов и ставят акцент на их принадлежности к военному поколению (об этом действительно редко задумываешься - совсем не такие "дети войны" живут вокруг нас), раскрывают специфику тогдашней ситуации в музыке, напоминают о неизбежной конкуренции с Beatles в 60-е, поначалу внушают надежду, что команде Джаггера и Ричардса повезло больше, чем Хендриксу с Маккартни и Ленноном. Однако третий и четвертый фильм (соответственно, 80-е и 90-е годы) сильно подрывают эту уверенность, а пятый окончательно все перечеркивает. В финальной серии 50 минут подряд с экрана звучат две фразы в разных вариациях: "Кто бы мог подумать, что они добьются такого успеха" и "Сорок лет в рок-н-ролле - других таких больше нет", а между ними - синопсис всего того, что уже прозвучало в четырех предыдущих главах.
За эти 4,5 часа давних фанов "Роллингов" (а в кадр попадал даже их ровесник, который, по его словам, ездит за группой с 63-го года и собирает футболки со всех концертов, на которых побывал) едва ли ждут серьезные открытия, а юное поколение, выросшее в эпоху скоростного интернета под аккомпанемент MTV с его мелкорубленой нарезкой кадров, дольше 10 минут у экрана не выдержит. Впору привлечь аналитика Анастасию Каменскую для составления психологического портрета "подозреваемого", то бишь гипотетического зрителя, на которого рассчитано это пособие по закреплению пройденного материала. Если для нынешних Rolling Stones каждый шаг - это в любом случае "Путь в бессмертие" (именно так русские издатели почему-то перевели название диска "Just For the Record"), то для создателей таких DVD это путь к банкротству.

Завоевание новых территорий. У Кита и Мика появились внуки. Три мировых турне, более 300 концертов, 5 новых альбомов (не считая сольных проектов). Разводы, творческие разногласия, разрыв с Биллом Уайтмэном. Поиск Святого Грааля продолжается.

Сорокалетие группы (2002). Долгожданный альбом 40 Licks. Мировой гастрольный тур. Фантастическое шоу на стадионе в Лос-Анжелесе. Снова находятся на гребне волны!

This is more like a documentary with cuts from arriving at airports, interviews, hotel rooms, backstage & on stage. It covers the first times Stones visited the Nordic countries; Denmark, Finland, Norway & Sweden in 1965. A short cut (0:40 sec.) arriving in Denmark June 26th is in color, the rest is in B&W.
Some parts had just noise or where silent and some had officially/original Stones songs played in the background that had to be removed. Those parts are replaced with recordings from the great rebroadcast from L'Olympia Theatre, Paris 18 April 65.
In the parts where they play on stage it's in no way the correct song that are dubbed in.
There was very different audio volume on the clips and I've tried to make them more equal, still a little low in the part where Danish fans are preparing questions for Stones, especially young girls often talk with low voice.

Music Box Biographical
This edition of the Music Box Biographical Collection tells the remarkable tale of the career of The Rolling Stones. Consisting of footage taken from throughout their decades long career, this film shows how Mich Jagger and Keith Richards survived changes in popular taste and tumultuous personal relationships in order to keep their band one of the longest living entities in rock history.
The DVD is simply a biography of the band using vintage footage, black and white photographs. Some of the film footage is simply shown over and over again while someone talks about the history of the band. The narrator is female and for starters, she doesn’t seem comfortable reading the script and stumbles over many sections. Then there’s the fact that what she’s reading is incorrect a number of times, such as in a particular title of a Beatles album when she’s comparing the music of both bands. Years that albums and songs were released are also incorrect, although less likely to be noticed. The first thing the creators of this DVD should have done was actual research. I don’t know where they got their facts from.
I don’t see how the promotional blurb for this DVD can call it a comprehensive history. The DVD jumps from their playing cover songs of popular U.S. artists in clubs back in the early 1960’s to their recording Their Satanic Majesties Request in 1967. After that, it’s back to the issue of their drug use in the 1960's and multiple drug busts. The Brian Jones era of the band is over less than 10 minutes into this and it feels like he's been hardly given any attention or any credit. Instead, the narrator seems to be suggesting that Jones was dragging down the rest of the band and once he was gone, Keith Richards was able to come into his own. Whether that's true or not on Richards' part isn't the issue, but to dismiss Jones' contribution to the band seems rather ignorant on the part of whoever put this documentary together.
A few minutes later, the documentary was through Altamont and into the 1970's. I had to take another look at the packaging and check the run time of the feature. At the rate it was going, it would seem it was going to be over in less than a half hour instead of the hour and a half it was posted. Thankfully, the run time was much less than what was posted on the packaging, and it was over in just about 45 minutes. I don’t think I could have taken much more of it.
However, after that, the same man who's name is never given (I assume he is some sort of “rock critic” or “rock historian”) is on again and back to talking about the early years and songs such as I Wanna Be Your Man. Once again, the same footage is being used over and over again, rather than having it filled with "rare & archive footage courtesy of numerous private collections from around the world" as stated on the DVD packaging. Archive footage was from the time period with black and white movies showing people in the 1960's and newscasts, rather than actual rare footage of the Stones.
Later on, when the makers of The Rolling Stones: Music Box Biographical Collection use footage that's in color, it's put in a painting of a television set that takes up most of the frame. It's probably done because the picture quality would be so poor if it were larger, but this is just as ridiculous for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that portions of the picture are cut out and we are treated to half a face at times while someone is talking.
On top of everything else, the picture was distorted, and even the photographs seem to be stretched and crunched at various times. There is also NO STONES MUSIC at all in this documentary. The narration is read to background music by studio musicians. Every now and then I caught a few chords that were from Stones songs, but other than that, it was just filler. The sound was muddy. Most of the time I had difficulty hearing the old footage, and this is a huge issue when you are talking about interviews (and it had nothing to do with Keith Richards being his usual unintelligible self). It wasn't cleaned up at all. The footage filmed expressly for this production is fine, but a sound mixer should have been brought in to take care of the old footage. However, I don’t think that would have saved The Rolling Stones: Music Box Biographical Collection from being one of the worst music documentaries I’ve ever seen, but at least it would have taken one negative off the table.
This had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. If I could rate it zero stars, I would. They should pay me for the time I wasted watching it. That’s 45 minutes I can never get back.
